Qualifications that open doors
The AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) is widely recognised for entry-level and executive roles. For senior positions, CIMA, ACCA, and CA Sri Lanka qualifications are the benchmark. A degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is also highly regarded.
Excel proficiency and experience with accounting software such as Quickbooks, Tally, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics are regularly required.
Career progression
Most professionals begin as an Accounts Assistant or Executive and progress to Senior Accountant, then Finance Manager within five to eight years. Those with professional qualifications often reach Controller or CFO level within a decade.
